There’s a lot of focus on 8/8 being the Lion’s Gate Portal, but guess what? That’s just the height of it. The portal, when Sirius, the brightest star in the sky, the Sun, Orion, and Earth are in alignment, begins July 28 and runs to August 12. Now, on August 8th (8/8), the alignment between these four celestial bodies is completely perfect, and Sirius’s power is activated by being in alignment with the Sun, Earth, and Orion.
Ancient Egypt and the Lion’s Gate Portal
Ancient Egyptians believed that Sirius was Sopdet (much like the Greeks believed that the Moon was the actual embodiment of Selene). Sopdet was Orion’s wife and the goddess who brought the new year and the waters back to the harvest. Here’s a cool article about her. When Sirius (or Sopdet) was in this position, the Nile would begin its annual flood, which was perhaps the most significant point in the agricultural calendar. The Nile flood would nurture the land and bring forth the harvest.
The Dog Days of Summer
To the Greeks and Romans, Sirius was the “Dog Star” and rose with the sun in late July. This is where we believe the term “Dog Days of Summer” may have originated. Ancient astrologers saw a resemblance between Sirius and two planets in our solar system: Jupiter and Mars. Jupiter is the planet of expansion, growth, and luck. Mars is the planet of action, energy, and competition. So, since Sirius possesses both these energies, the alignment and activation with the Sun at the Lion’s Gate Portal is especially auspicious.

The portal’s peak happens on 8/8. Eight is the number of transformation and growth, so double eight is double that energy! Have you ever noticed that an 8 is really an infinity symbol on its side? Yeah, your energy and potential are limitless! Remember that today and every day.
How to Work with the Lion’s Gate Portal
Sirius is the brightest star in the sky and is often considered our Spiritual Sun. Our Sun is also halfway through Leo, which is an astrological season of confidence and courage. The Sun is also Leo’s ruler, so you can see how the energy just keeps piling up in a good way.
The best way to work with the Lion’s Gate Portal is to focus on the alignment of YOUR energy. Speak your manifestations into reality, either through spell crafting, journaling, or even just saying them out loud (be specific, though! The Universe has a sense of humor sometimes). And then, let go of the expectations around them.
Most manifestations take time. When they happen quickly, it’s often because the factors around them have already been in motion for weeks or months.
